Some frequently asked questions about the theatre

We have put together a list of some of our most frequently asked questions regarding the theatre. If you can’t find an answer to your question below please contact us.

Is the theatre wheelchair accessible?

Yes, both the theatre and bar at Cottiers have wheelchair access.  Entry to the bar is by the main door.  Entry to the theatre is by a second door accessed from the courtyard beer garden, then down a shallow ramp into the auditorium.

For customers with limited mobility, the wheelchair accessible route is the easiest way to enter the theatre.  It is also possible to walk from the main bar into the theatre without going through the courtyard, but there is a small set of stairs.

Who is eligible for concession tickets?

Our standard policy is to offer concessions to OAPs, Under 16s, Students and the Unwaged.  Individual productions may choose to restrict concessions to specific categories, or may choose to offer additional concessions, for instance to Equity Card holders.  Any details of changes to the standard policy will be shown on the info pages for individual shows.

Why are there no child tickets?

Children under 16s are usually included in the concession ticket price.  If a particular show is offering a different price for children, this will be noted on the page for that show.

Why am I being charged a ticket admin fee?

Cottiers and Websters Theatres are independent theatres and do not receive funding subsidies to offer the programme of shows available.  As a non-funded venue we have to add a ticket admin charge to tickets to go towards our running costs – these include things like staffing the box office, printers, ticket paper, phone lines, box office software etc.

Can I avoid paying the ticket admin fee if I come into the theatre?

No, unfortunately the ticket admin fee applies to all tickets, including tickets purchased in person at the venue.  The fee is purely to cover staffing costs and other running costs – without it, we couldn’t afford to have a member of staff at the box office to take your order.

Is the £1 donation when booking online mandatory?

No, this is a suggested donation.  If you don’t wish to include a donation, when you reach the payment screen, change the amount in the donation box from 1.00 to 0.00 and click the recalculate button before you submit your payment details.

Can I come in and pick up my tickets from Cottiers?

Our box office is only manned when there is a performance in the venue, so most of the time, there won’t be anyone at Cottiers who can print off tickets for you.  For Box Office Collection, please wait until the day of performance and pop in 1-2 hours before the show starts to collect your tickets.  Phone messages and emails to the Box Office are checked at least once a day, Tuesdays to Saturdays.
