The Fairy Queen – Glasgow University Opera Society 2026
Step into an enchanted forest where mortals wander foolishly, lovers quarrel, fairies meddle and magic hangs in the air.
Inspired by Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Purcell’s ‘The Fairy Queen’ is an opera that weaves mischief and whimsy together through its delightful baroque score. Gods, nymphs, and mischievous spirits weave their way through scenes of romance, illusion, and transformation. Magic lingers just out of reach…
Expect:

Spellbinding arias

Dreamlike choral scenes

A whimsical, otherworldly score

Lovers lost (and found) in the forest
Will love triumph?
Will illusion dissolve?
Will anyone wake wiser?
