Remembrance Day Walking Tour

Remembrance Day Walking Tour

Performance Date: 11 Nov 2018 - 12:15 pm - 5:00 pm

Join Niall Murphy, Deputy Director of Glasgow City Heritage Trust for a Remembrance Day walking tour through the West End of Glasgow from Cottiers on Hynland Street to Websters Theatre in Kelvinbridge. The walk, between two of Glasgow’s finest churches, will take it in a range of interesting locations enroute including some notable urban set pieces in the West End, handsome Edwardian tenements and townhouses, an Alexander ‘Greek’ Thomson terrace, the American Collegiate Gothic of Glasgow University Chapel – Glasgow’s largest war memorial – with its superb Art Deco sculptural programme and Glasgow Academy’s fine war memorial. The walk will also focus on women’s history in the West End including Queen Margaret Union and more idiosyncratic highlights such as the stylish bar which was once the former garage of motoring enthusiast Dr Marion Gilchrist, the first female to graduate from the University of Glasgow and the first woman to gain a medical degree in Scotland.
Tickets are £10.00 (excluding booking fee of £1.50)
