Experience a night in a Scottish internment camp!

During World War One Stobs near Hawick in the Scottish Borders was the site of an internment camp for German nationals and PoWs. Like in many camps across the world the prisoners had time on their hands and tried to use it productively by setting up a school, playing music, putting on arts and crafts exhibitions and staging shows.

Humour was important in the life of the camps; based on a programme found in Hawick Museum, ‘A Night at Stobs’ recreates an evening of light music and theatre as it would have been performed at the camp in January 1917.

The show will feature an all-male cast, with female roles filled through cross-dressing. Come and experience one of these nights to delve into the life of these internees and learn more about the history of internment camps.
